Overstay and longer stays

The visa on arrival is good for up to 30 days 1. For a longer trip you need a visa from an embassy before you travel 1. Extensions go through the Department of Immigration and Passports office in Agargaon, Dhaka 1.

If you overstay, the fine is Tk 200 a day for the first 15 days and Tk 500 a day after that 1. On top of the fine you pay a new visa fee equal to the embassy visa fee for your country, such as US$160 for US citizens 1. The visa form portal lists the same US$160 for US citizens 3.

Where the e-visa stands

Bangladesh does not issue an e-visa yet. The visa.gov.bd portal takes online forms, but you still print the form and hand it in with your fee at a mission or visa office 3.

Official records list an unapproved project called Implementation of e-Visa, Bangladesh, planned for July 2026 to June 2031 at an estimated Tk 1,800 crore, The Business Standard reported on 10 October 2026 4. It has no budget in the current fiscal year 4. The Ministry of Home Affairs is separately weighing a border system that would include e-visa and travel authorisation features 4.
