Bangladesh can issue a visa on arrival for up to 30 days to listed nationalities and some travellers from countries without a Bangladesh mission 1,2. Tourism, business, investment and official-duty routes have different evidence. A return ticket, hotel or invitation evidence and enough funds may be required 1,3. Eligibility is not approval. The immigration officer makes the final decision, and an airline may refuse boarding if it is not satisfied with your documents 2.

The nationality and mission tests

The Bangladesh Embassy in Copenhagen lists citizens of the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, the Gulf states named on its page, Turkey, Brunei, Egypt and all European countries among the possible groups 1.

A traveller from a country with no Bangladesh mission, or travelling from a third country without a Bangladesh mission, may fall within another official route 1. Reciprocity and the purpose of travel still matter.

Tourists, business visitors and investors

A tourist should carry a confirmed return or onward ticket and hotel reservation 1,2. A business visitor needs a genuine invitation from a Bangladesh business body or chamber. An investor needs a recommendation from BIDA, BEPZA or another authorised body 1,4.

Defence or security travel needs prior Home Ministry clearance 1. These routes are separate, so a hotel booking cannot replace a business invitation where the business route is claimed.

Proof at the airport or land port

Carry a passport, return or onward ticket, address in Bangladesh and evidence for the stated purpose. The New York consulate tells US travellers to show at least US$500 in cash or on a credit card 2. That mission guidance should not be treated as a universal sum for every nationality.

Bangkok's official page says visa on arrival can be issued at international airports and land ports and records a maximum 30-day stay 3. The officer can ask questions and refuse the application.

Boarding is a separate decision

The New York consulate warns that an airline may refuse to carry a passenger who has no visa 2. The airline checks its own travel-document system before boarding, and the immigration decision comes later in Bangladesh.

If your nationality, route or supporting papers do not fit the published terms, obtain a mission visa before travel. A ticket does not prove entry rights.

Official pages are not worded the same

Mission pages describe the same policy with small differences in country lists, examples and document wording 1,23. The Copenhagen page was updated on 9 September 2026 and the New York page on 6 October 2026 1,2.

Use the newest guidance from the Bangladesh mission serving you, then ask the airline before departure. The immigration officer's decision at the port remains final 1,2.
