Who may qualify
The Bangkok mission lists foreign citizens of Bangladeshi origin and their foreign-born spouses and children 1. New York lists those groups and the foreign spouse and children of a Bangladeshi citizen 2.
New York's page includes a foreign investor who has invested at least US$5 million in Bangladesh 2. That is a separate investor route and needs its own proof.
The SAARC limitation
The official NVR guidance excludes citizens of SAARC countries from the Bangladeshi-origin route 1,5. Applicants should not assume that family origin alone overrides that nationality limitation.
Eligibility descriptions can differ by mission and family situation. Ask the mission serving your address if the case does not fit its published list.
Documents that prove the link
The applicant needs the foreign passport, application form, photographs and evidence of Bangladeshi origin or family relationship 1,2. Proof can include a Bangladesh passport, national identity card, birth record, citizenship record, marriage certificate or a parent's qualifying papers, depending on the route.
A mission can ask for originals, copies, notarisation or extra evidence. Follow that mission's checklist rather than copying another country's mail instructions.
Validity and a new passport
The endorsement permits repeated travel and an unlimited stay for as long as the endorsed passport remains valid 1,3. It is tied to that passport.
When the passport expires, apply for an endorsement in the new passport under the serving mission's process. Do not assume the old endorsement has moved across.
Why the fee depends on the mission
New York and Washington list US$88 2,3. Toronto lists C$130 from 1 May 2026 4. The difference shows why one mission's local fee should not be presented as a worldwide NVR price.
Check the current fee, payment instrument, mailing rules and return delivery charge on the mission website before paying. A rejected payment method can delay the application.
Common questions
What does Bangladesh NVR mean?

How long can an NVR holder stay?
The cited mission pages describe an unlimited stay during the endorsed passport's validity 1,3.
Does NVR move to a new passport?
