Flights out of Bangladesh airports carry an airport development fee and a passenger security fee, set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) in 2020 1,3. The two CAAB fees

CAAB started charging an airport development fee and a passenger security fee in August 2020 1,2. The fees apply to departing passengers using airports in Bangladesh, not one airport alone 1,3. So the same amounts apply on flights from Dhaka, Chattogram and Sylhet.

You do not pay at a counter. The fees are collected with your ticket through IATA 3.

VAT on top

The National Board of Revenue told CAAB to add 15% VAT to both fees, The Business Standard reported on 29 July 2020 1. On a SAARC route that put the extra charge at about Tk 1,075 with VAT at the July 2020 exchange rate 1.

Other charges in a domestic ticket

In January 2025 a domestic ticket carried an excise duty of Tk 700, a travel tax of Tk 200, the Tk 100 development fee and the Tk 70 security fee, The Daily Star reported 5. The excise duty had gone up from Tk 500 5.

International tickets carry the travel tax and an excise duty too, at higher rates than domestic tickets 5. See the travel tax page for the full rates.

A proposed rise that is not confirmed

In December 2023 CAAB sent the civil aviation ministry a plan to raise both fees and set them in taka from 1 January 2024, Bangladesh Monitor reported on 17 December 2023 4. The report said the ministry still had to approve it 4.

Charges we could not confirm

Bangladesh tickets can show other airport items, such as an embarkation fee or a passenger service charge. We could not find a current official or press source for their amounts, so we do not list them here. The CAAB portal page on charges was offline when we checked on 19 October 2026. Your airline can show each tax line on your ticket.
