A study-abroad budget needs more than tuition and airfare. Add admission or enrolment payments, visa, health cover, any visa-centre charge, document work, travel tax, airport charges and money for the first weeks after arrival. Bangladesh Bank lets an authorised dealer bank remit documented tuition, living and required insurance costs to a recognised institution 1. Those education payments are handled separately from the student's personal annual travel entitlement 2.

Build the budget in stages

Start with application and test payments, then the admission deposit, visa and insurance. Add tuition due before arrival, flight, Bangladesh departure charges, housing deposit and the first month's living costs.

Keep a separate line for refundable deposits. A blocked account or housing deposit ties up money even when it is not a final charge.

Visa and health charges can be large

The UK Student visa costs £558 in October 2026 3. Its student immigration health surcharge is £776 for each year of visa validity, paid during the application 4. A multi-year course can make that health payment larger than the visa fee.

Another country can use a lower application fee but demand insurance or proof of funds. Use the official page for the destination and course type, not a single global estimate.

What the Bangladesh bank can remit

Bangladesh Bank permits authorised dealer banks to release foreign exchange for regular recognised courses, including tuition, living expenses, admission processing and required medical insurance when the papers support them 1.

A university can name a designated payment processor in the admission record. The bank may remit through that entity when the institution's documents clearly require it 1.

Keep one student file

Bangladesh Bank says purchases for the course should go through one authorised dealer branch 1. A move to another branch needs the file to pass directly between the banks on the student's written request.

For later releases, the bank can ask for a current progress report and the institution's updated cost estimate 1. Keep admission, fee schedules, payment receipts and academic reports together.

Costs that appear after approval

Add flights, baggage, domestic travel to the departure airport, travel tax, airport fees and currency conversion. At the destination, add housing deposit, local transport, a phone connection and food before any scholarship or part-time income arrives.

Do not plan a budget around uncertain work income. A student or visitor visa can limit work, and a refusal can leave some application or service payments non-refundable.

Common questions

Can a Bangladesh bank send tuition abroad?

Yes. An authorised dealer can remit documented tuition and other allowed study costs for a recognised course 1.

Does tuition use the annual travel quota?

The 2026 designated education-card facility is separate from travel quota 2.

Can required student insurance be remitted?

Yes, when the visa or admission record makes it mandatory and the documents support the amount 1.

Should every course payment use the same bank?

Bangladesh Bank says the study file should stay with one authorised dealer branch. A change requires a bank-to-bank file transfer 1.

What is often missed in a student budget?

Health surcharges, visa-centre charges, housing deposits, document work, baggage and first-arrival living money.
